A very fond farewell

Colby's farewell talk in sacrament meeting was on May 29.  He said he was more nervous to speak in church, than to leave for the MTC.  He did a great job and we were so grateful for all the love and support of our family, friends and ward.  Colby has so many great people in his life that have helped him get to this point.  We love and appreciate all of you.

I love to see the temple

Once Colby had received his mission call, he told us that he wanted to take out his endowments in the San Diego temple.  We didn't think this was an option, since we had family and friends that we wanted to include.  He agreed, and on May 7, 2016, he went to the Bountiful Temple.  It was an amazing experience to be there with him.  He enjoyed the whole experience and we were so happy to be able to share the day with our friends and family.

The next weekend, we took Colby to California.  We went to the San Diego Temple, and it was amazing!  We drove up to Los Angeles, and visited the grounds of the Los Angeles Temple and the Visitors Center.  We also drove through a portion of his mission boundaries and went to a Dodgers game.  It was great to be able to spend this time with him.  He is excited to be a resident of California soon.

Called to Serve

Colby has decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He shared this news with me and Allen in early March, 2016.  We couldn't be happier.  We think Colby is an amazing young man with a huge heart and a willingness to serve.  He's going to do great things.

After all of the doctor and dentist appointments, he submitted his call on March 29, and received the call in mail on April 14, 2016.  He waited until April 15 to open it.

.

Colby invited family and friends to share the excitement of opening his call.  We had a map out and let people place their guess.  A lot of guesses to foreign lands.  I hadn't been nervous about any of this, until he was ready to open that envelope.

Colby was called to the California, San Fernando mission.
He enters the MTC in Provo on June 1.  We are so excited for him, and the people in San Fernando that will get to know him.  You are going to be a great missionary.

"The decision to serve a mission will shape the spiritual destiny of the missionary, his or her spouse, and their posterity for generations to come.  A desire to serve is a natural outcome of one's conversion, worthiness, and preparation." Elder Russell M. Nelson
