The Blessing of Struggling up Rock Canyon

Elder Martin's email, October 24, 2016

Elder Martin and Elder Jensen

Ward Halloween party, decorated like Hogwarts complete with a
couple hundred floating candles.

"If we give our heart to God, if we love the Lord Jesus Christ, if we do the best we
can to live the gospel, then tomorrow- and every other day- is ultimately going to be magnificent,
even if we don't always recognize it as such.  Why? Because our Heavenly Father wants it to be!
He wants to bless us."  Jeffrey R. Holland

"We don't need your message. ARG!"

Elder Martin's email, October 17, 2016

I love P day!  I am usually able to 'chat' live with Elder Martin, and being able to have a little one on one time with him really buoys me up to face the week ahead.  But, it also makes me miss him.  I love the pictures he sends, his smiling face lets me know that he is okay and that he loves being a missionary.  I am so very grateful for the people around him.  Monday night, I received this text message:
"Hi missionary moms!  Your two sons were at my house for dinner tonight.  This is the second time I have had them over and I adore both of them.  They are polite, well mannered, interesting to talk to and so, so, so much more.  You should be so proud and pleased with your sons.  I live near their apartment and I see them several times throughout the week riding their bikes through our VERY hilly neighborhood.  Each time I see them I think to myself, "if my son grows up to serve a mission and work as hard as they do, nothing would make me happier."  Thank you for raising such amazing young men and sharing them with our ward.  We are so blessed to have them here in Santa Clarita."

Wow!  It totally made my night. What a sweet sister. Yes, we are very pleased with him, but I don't feel like I can take any credit for the incredible human being that he is.  He just came to me that way.

"I need someone to feed my sheep, find my lambs, spread my gospel.  I need someone to love me."  (Christ)

At the corner of Spice and Oregano

A kind ward member sent this to me last week.  She snapped this as they finished emailing, before they started their activity.

"Saints can be happy under every circumstance.  We can feel joy even while having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad year! My dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives."  Russell M. Nelson

Flat tires and General Conference

Elder Martin's email October 3, 2016

"We are blessed to have the truth.  We have a mandate to share the truth.  Let us live the truth, that we might merit all that the Father has for us.  He does nothing save it be for our benefit.   He has told us," This is my work and my glory- to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."  President Thomas S. Monson
